Ukraine: The 21st Century War

In 2025, the Victims of Communism Museum was proud to host a pop-up exhibition entitled Ukraine: The 21st Century War, A Story Told Through Images, Voices, and Memory. This exhibit, made possible by the DAAR Foundation, in partnership with SigmaBleyzer and the Bleyzer Family, invited guests to walk through the lived experiences of Ukraine in war — from the shattering first day of invasion to the enduring resilience of people rebuilding their lives under fire.

Created by the Institute of Judaica (Ukraine) with support from international cultural and charitable partners, the exhibition pairs striking photography with first-hand testimonies from the oral history project “Those Who Looked into Hell.” These works are not just records of war — they are voices of remembrance and resilience. Together, they challenge us to look, listen, and bear witness.

In this exhibit, visitors:

-Saw the truth of Ukraine’s war through the eyes of award-winning photographers.
-Heard survivors’ voices, carrying stories of pain, survival, and hope.
-Reflected and remembered, ensuring the human cost of war is not forgotten.
